Announcing the renovated Gualala Hotel relaunch

The historic Gualala Hotel near the mouth of the Gualala River has been a Mendocino Coast institution since 1903. Situated on California’s beautiful coast Highway 1 in the heart of Gualala.

Where the river meets the ocean

Gualala’s turquoise beach is nothing short of stunning and the Gualala Hotel offers you a first-class seat to gaze into it and dream the days away with world class service. Please join us to celebrate our rich history in our beautiful and historic restaurant bar. It is radiating with tales from travelers, settlers and pioneers dating back 120 years. Tales and laughter still whisper to you as you become a part of her rich history. If you are lucky to sit next to one of our old timers, they will surely remind you that the hotel is a rich part of their family memories.

Historic Bar & Restaurant – Our menu is fresh and local

We will offer fresh seasonally caught fish by local fishermen, organic fruits and vegetables from local family farms, CCOF certified organic wines handcrafted by local vintners, grass-fed organic beef raised by family ranchers, free range non-GMO chicken, all served with our world class smile to warm your heart, sooth your soul, and stimulate your taste buds with meticulous attention to every culinary detail.

The ocean views are simply magical. The crisp blue colors allow your mind to wander deep into the Pacific Ocean. Often, you slip into a daydream as you notice a flock of seagull’s circling high above the beach by the thousands, while giant low flying pelicans skim the water with precision and grace. Suddenly, you notice a mirage, a fountain of water misting out of the ocean in the distance, only to realize it’s a whale’s water spout making their annual migration past our town. It is common to see 20 or more spouts at the same time. Our water is so rich and alive it’s a nature lovers dream. Our ability to see both the Gualala River and Pacific Ocean in one view is very rare and inspiring. When the river flows into the Pacific Ocean in Winter it is pure excitement. It’s so powerful, you can feel the ground move under you. The power of the fast moving river meets the massive waves, moving mountains of sand and reorganizing the beach daily. You must experience it to understand how powerful it is. It’s a spectacular natural wonder!

Shammas Family Mission

We are inspired by Gualala’s rich and important history that helped to build the west. History and nature will be our primary focus as new owners and residents in the community. The Gualala Hotel will do the heavy lifting. The old girl has so much to share with the world. Some of the most important contracts and deals that have helped shape the north coast have been made in our historic lounge and bar. Imagine the hundreds of thousands of acres that have changed hands through the last 120 years over a drink, some ink and a handshake!

We are motivated to bring our majestic Gualala Hotel back to her full glory. The old girl has been resting too long. She is anxious to have her friends come back and visit her. She is being loved as we speak. We are decorating her with as many historic pictures that we can find. We are going through all 19 rooms and the attic looking for clues of our local history, from San Francisco to Mendocino town, and all of the neighboring towns in-between. We want to share the story of Cyrus Robinson, the many loggers, the railroad, the pony express, the fishermen, the pioneering woman, the Chinese workers and the founding indigenous Pomo Indian tribes. All of the details matter in the creation of our town. It’s a fascinating evolution of how Gualala was built and called home by so many others before us. We will celebrate our founding fathers with respect and dignity.

Thank you sincerely,
Milo & Patricia
